 Excellent resource

September 21, 2016

Excellent book and curriculum. I work with children and adolescents in the school setting and am able to extract specific tools or techniques easily for single clients or apply the full curriculum, as required for group work. My wife and I facilitate an evening DBT skills group and use this as the curriculum. While she facilitates the clients, I facilitate their parents in a parent support group in another meeting room at the same time. We both use/adapt this curriculum for the sessions. My wife uses the paper version in a binder (so she can make hand-outs) and teaches the skills in detail. I use the kindle version on my iPad as a guide with mom and dad to provide a skills overview and detailed look at how things work in their homes/families. This book works and adapts great for both purposes.

Great manual, love the teaching instructions.

I use this manual to facilitate skills training for adolescents and I love it. The teacher’s notes are very helpful and there are lots of hypothetical examples/alternate exercises listed in the book. Sometimes I wish there were more headlines/it was broken up in a way that is more conducive to a visual learner like me so I could navigate a bit more easily, but that’s a relatively minor complaint. Overall it’s a great investment and I love this book.

Excellent Adolescent Anxiety and Depression Therapy

August 27, 2019

Accompanied by a competent DBT therapist, and hopefully a teen group format, this can be a life changer and life saver. Get professional help, be supportive, and give it time. It would be good for everyone to be reminded frequently of these universal human tendencies and prudent coping skills. Anyone in or coming out of crisis conditions needs a comprehensive care strategy with MD and therapist(s). A book alone is only the most superficial of assistance. But in a stable environment, this therapy provides a buttress to challenge and avoid common pitfalls and cycles that might lead to crisis.
