The Authors

Daviss Drug Guide for Nurses PDF

Davis’s Drug Guide for Nurses provides comprehensive, up-to-date drug information in well-organized, nursing-focused monographs. It also includes extensive supplemental material in 14 appendices, thoroughly addresses the issue of safe medication administration, and educates the reader about 50 different therapeutic classes of drugs. In this 17th edition, we have continued the tradition of focusing on safe medication administration by including Medication Safety Tools and even more information about health care’s most vulnerable patients: children, the elderly, pregnant women, and breast feeding mothers. Look for more PediGeriOB, and Lactation headings throughout the monographs. We have also included a BEERS label at the top of applicable drug monographs for those medications listed in the Beers Criteria developed by the American Geriatrics Society. These medications are considered to be potentially inappropriate for use in older adults because they are associated with more risk than benefit in this patient population. In addition, we’ve included information relevant to Canadian students and nurses. You’ll find an appendix comparing Canadian and U.S. pharmaceutical practices, more Canada-only combination drugs in the Combination Drugs appendix, and additional Canadian brand names in the drug monographs. To help you find this information quickly, we’ve also added a maple leaf icon (Canadian Tradename) in the index next to each Canadian entry. We have added pharmacogenomic information throughout numerous monographs to guide the nurse in selecting and monitoring various drug therapies. To help you find this information quickly, we’ve added a double helix icon (Genetic Implications) to denote this information as it applies to specific drugs. Use this book to enhance your competence in implementing and evaluating medication therapies. The following sections describe the organization of Davis’s Drug Guide for Nurses and explain how to quickly find the information you need.

Required for nursing program, glad to receive latest edition and cheaper price in new condition, have already used book several times for pharmacology class and so happy I purchased since received an A on my presentation due to having this book. Lists the medications: generic, trade name, classification, indications, action, pharmacokinetics, interactions, side effects, route/dosage, nursing implications, implementation, patient teaching, evaluation/desired outcomes, contraindications/precautions

wanted to address those negative views

March 26, 2021

The font is around size 9 on Microsoft word, but I didn’t have problems reading it. Plus, it’s not like you are reading this book cover to cover, and it’s only for the meds you need in the moment. The book is great to use. Important facts are underlined and safety things to consider are in red color and what’s important is it’s neatly divided into sections like side effects and nursing considerations. It’s 1477 pages long, so obviously the font has to be small, or the book would not be manageable to carry out as it’s already bulky on its own. It’s not pocket size, as it’s slightly bigger than an adult male hand on the front cover and as thick as a closed adult fist. Drugs are all alphabetized. There’s a code in the book front that gives you a 1 year subscription to drugguide.com and a discounted rate for the david’s drug guide. I had no pages missing or weird black smudges. Book has the clean freshly printed page brand new smell. The back section has a small couple of pages of meds in canada, natural herbs and products. I enjoy that the information is concise and also explains the pharmacokinetics briefly and also highlights contraindicated drugs and conditions. Very satisfied with this purchase.

Has a LOT of the newer drugs than the 2019 drug book

July 21, 2020

This book has a LOT of the drugs that are new to the Pharmaceutical world. I love that I have the handheld version because I can carry it on my phone and if I need something, I can just bring it up on my phone and review it with the patient if needed.

Not in as “new” condition as it claims to be

August 18, 2020

I bought this book on 8/18/20 and it arrived within a few hours which is great. I paid almost $50 for a brand new copy so I could make notes as needed; however upon arrival the books front and back covers and some of the pages were very bent up. The book will serve its purpose, but I am disappointed in the fact I payed for a new copy and that it came all crumbled up and looking used.
