The Writers
Richard Delgado (born October 6, 1939)[1] is an American legal scholar who teaches civil rights and critical race theory at the University of Alabama School of Law. He has written and co-authored numerous articles and books, many with his wife, Jean Stefancic. He is considered one of several “founders” of Critical Race Theory, and is also notable for his scholarship on hate speech and for introducing storytelling into legal scholarship.[2][3]

Conspiracy Race Theory

I read this book to learn more about Critical Race Theory. In the process of this endeavor, I continually ran into truth claims void of evidence, false presuppositions, racial stereotyping and straw man arguments. The book did help me understand Critical Race Theory better than I had previously understood it. It also revealed to me that the entire theory is build upon a house of cards whose foundation is sand. It’s presuppositions concerning “whiteness” and the assumed collective motivations of the white race toward colonialism and the obtaining and holding of power over other races are on the par of conspiracy theories. It not only explains CRT from a legal profession standpoint, it holds an implicit bias in support of it. The typical presuppositions are promoted including the concepts of oppressed and oppressor being race based. Other false presuppositions include theories concerning implicit racism in law enforcement, the implicit racism of nation states enforcing national boundaries, inequity in education based on racial divide and the free enterprise system in international free trade being implicitly racist. If you can stomach the implicit bias in this book, you might be able to gain some insight into the mindset of a CRT advocate by reading it. In that since I recommend it. However, I do not recommend serious consideration of its conspiracy theory tendencies.

Bad ideas only make race relations worse

The book covers most of the major topics in CRT. It is a good introduction to how they see race issues. I feel it is well written and easy to understand. Having said all that, It is the worst way to look at race . CRT makes the problem of race unsolvable. If you are a White male ,you are racist. If you try to help minorities, You are displaying interest convergence. Which means your only helping because it reinforces your White supremacy in some way. So, the only thing a White person can do is be quite and do what they are told to do by the minority. This is how the book essentially starts and gets worse from there.
If you believe in this I feel bad for you, but If you want to see how crazy this is . I recommend it

If you have never read anything about critical race theory, this book will give you some grounding. It will tell you what critical race theorists believe, but it will not tell you why they believe it or offer any argument as to why you should. Everything the authors state is dogma and any criticisms are mere straw men to be brushed aside. The author makes up parables and then expects you to accept them as true. A large portion of the book is just fiction writing of scenarios the author makes up. If this sounds like an introduction to a religion, it’s because it is. If you think America is a lost cause, irredeemably racist and has barely progressed since slavery ended, you may enjoy your beliefs being reaffirmed.
As for what critical race theory rejects, this sentence from the book is accurate.
“Critical race theory questions the very foundations of the liberal order, including equality theory, legal reasoning, Enlightenment rationalism, and neutral principles of constitutional law.”

Create discussion of racial problems, but fails to discuss shortcommings CRT

As other reviewers pointed out, this book provides a great summary of the very real pains experienced by African Americans throughout the history of our country, and provides a good summary of the ideas behind Critical Race Theory. Unfortunately for us all, the book fails to point out important flaws in thinking by the CRT adherents. For example, in the discussion of Brown vs. Board of Education and the lack of white’s altruism, the authors fail to mention that the existence of true altruism is a fundamental topic of moral philosophy, and also fail to mention that countless white people have been fighting a hard fight against the culture of racism and slavery since before our country was founded, and fail to give credit to the people of all races whose unyielding determination finally shifted the culture enough to enable this victory. The largest failure of the book, though, is the complete lack of discussion of advances in decision theory and neurology that have revealed that much of what some consider “racism” may be better explained as tribal biases (hard-wired neural pathways in our brain that evolved at a time when humans lived in tribal communities). The authors expressed some confusion as to why differing minority groups in America have not banded together to fight white power, something easily explained through an understanding of neural tribal biases. Almost on par with this largest failure, is a lack of discussion on recent historical research on the “Leviathan” culture of the North, and the “honor-shame” culture of the South, and the fact that the honor culture thrives in areas where policing is ineffectual. The clash of these cultures, brought about by the rapid movement of people and ideas over the past century or so, offers a more complex insight to many problems that CRT adherents view as simple racism. The authors fail to point out that many studies that “prove” racism make the statistical error of assuming that correlation implies causation, and so fail to reveal the underlying truths that may help solve our society’s problems. There was also a lack of discussion on other neural biases, such as confirmation bias, that can incorrectly fool a person into believing assumptions such as “all whites are racist.” CRT, as the authors describe it, was founded by lawyers who see racism as a power-based problem requiring Leviathan-only approaches to solve. Because the authors make no mention of these other advances in human psychology and sociology, they fail to point out that CRT-based solutions, in actuality, may increase racial strife in our country and set back the clock of equality an untold number of years. If you want to understand what CRT authors are saying, this is a good book. If you are interested moving our society towards peace and harmony-in the direction so eloquently described a half century ago by Martin Luther King Jr. in his many writings and speeches, read up on these other science areas before reading CRT.

This book is very clearly set out, and is therefore an ideal guide for those who despise ‘critical’ theory and identity politics in general. Read this and you will discover exactly the kind of groupthink you are up against.

Written by two Ivy League law professors but for all that quite accessible.
It’s a good overview and includes a bit if intersectionality, too.
If you’re hearing about CRT and are a thoughtful person, then this is a good reasonably priced text by two influential intellectuals/academics/activists.
I see some bad reviews but they’re not truthfully about the quality of the book or its writing, more just people who’ve got too used to unearned privilege and feel any challenges to their position ire-inducing
