With 26 years’ experience working in child sexual abuse, sexual violence, complex trauma and domestic abuse, she has run consultancy and training for parents, teachers, social workers, nurses, therapists, counsellors, solicitors, the NSPCC, the Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Committee, the Methodist Church, the Metropolitan Police Service and the Refugee Council. Concise book on trauma model.

Concise trauma model explained – my level 4 and 5 diploma training didn’t go into integration and recovery. Explains secondary trauma too – that could be experienced by the therapist without adequate self care in place. Very good book, was recommended to me by employer at agency deadling with trauma clients. Its also helpful for those that have experienced trauma first hand, a friend is also reading the book and finding it helpful

Another Essential Book by Christiane Sanderson

This is another hugely informative and incredibly useful book on the subject of trauma by Christiane Sanderson. It is invaluable for those working within the field (in my case as a sexual abuse counsellor) – but I can see how it would also be really helpful to my clients and all survivors of trauma.
The book has a particularly good progression/’flow’ to it; following the survivor’s journey from trauma to post-traumatic growth and everything they are likely to encounter along the way.
Christiane’s familiar use of ‘icons’ in her books offers a really good shorthand when you are reading her work/working through specific issues with clients as you are immediately drawn to the relevance of certain sections (‘Warning!’, ‘Top Tip’, ‘Remember’, ‘Exercise’, ‘Remind Your Client’).
As she says in the introduction, she has designed it as a book “you can dip in and out of, as you need to; it is a flexible resource to be used in the way it most suits you”. This is EXACTLY how I use this book and I recommend it wholeheartedly to you.

Bought this amazing book written by a leader in the field and found it invaluable. Half text book and half self help guide for survivors of CSA/trauma to be used in conjunction with therapy. The section on Dissociation is particularly helpful. Highly recommended!
