 Fantastic series

May 26, 2016

This is a fantastic series and I highly recommend it. I’ve read this one and the emergency medicine one and they are both very good. I like that the book uses clinical terms and spends some time explaining types of microbes one might encounter in a clinical setting. It also has a short section about anti-microbial treatments, what they are used for, how they differ, what was used in the past, what is used now, etc. The case studies are short and then each is explained over a few pages. I could easily read through a couple in 30-45 minutes. I also like that the book is small enough to carry around. Before I was reading Microbiology Made Ridiculously Easy, which is another great book and has similar information, but it’s so big and heavy that it wasn’t practical to carry with me. On the other hand, I can read Case File: Microbiology on a break at work or while waiting in a line somewhere.

(Disclaimer: I bought this book as supplemental reading for a microbiology masters and I haven’t taken the USMLE so I can’t attest to its worth as a study aid.)

 awesome resource!

April 28, 2011

This book is an absolute must-have for medical students, clinical laboratory science students, and for anyone working in a microbiology-related field. It covers all of the organisms (bacterial and viral) that are likely to be encountered, and gives concise information on the diagnosis and treatment of the diseases they cause. I work in a microbiology lab, and the clinical information (symptoms) this book gives has helped me numerous times to determine what organism I should be looking for. Words cannot describe how helpful this book is! I would definitely give it a very high recommendation!
