Cafer’s Psychopharmacology is an essential resource for any prescriber of psychiatric medication. To help you match trade names with generic names of 270 medications, this book features mascots akin to the Xyzal “Wise Owl” and Myrbetriq Bladder characters. Each medication’s mascot is incorporated into a visual-mnemonic framework designed for recollection of pharmacokinetic interactions. For instance, CYP2C19 substrates are represented as flowers with CYP2C19 inhibitors as watering cans to make the flowers grow. CYP1A2 substrates are trees to be chopped down by axes (CYP1A2 inducers). Lithium is a battery and anything that interferes with its renal excretion is depicted as a battery charger.

jana “This book has helped me gain a better understanding of psych meds. Helped me a lot in advanced psychopharmacology class.”
Jamie Bourgeois “While the information in this book is rather complete overview of psychopharmacology, the page layouts are so distracting that I had a very hard time focusing on the medication I would be reviewing. This “visualize to memorize” approach takes pictorial brain jogs to the extreme. Perhaps my brain just doesn’t work the way the author and others who rate this book high- I found myself overwhelmed.
I would recommend Stahl’s books instead- his prescribing guide is easy to read and makes for a quick reference.”
