Mediocre Image Quality, Good Factual Info, Overdue for Update!

Negatives: The print image quality is TERRIBLE. As others indicated on some of the images the findings are not visible. This is mostly the case for Mammographic images. Armed with 20/20 vision and a magnifying glass, I could not see the findings on some (despite knowing from the answers where the findings are). That is not good for a book that is dedicated to imaging. The written content is good, however there are mistakes which does create some frustration. There are new guidelines, ACS for example, that are obviously not going to be reflected in this book.
Positives: Good study source as there are not many out there. The answers are explained well with charts that I found useful. If you study this book you should do well on the Boards with the facts(provided you know from experience or other sources, what things look like on mammograms). It does cover all the important topics.
Overall: Given lack of better sources to study this book is still a buy for those that want a good comprehensive review. A new edition is overdue given changes in BiRads and ACS. It gets 2 stars because of the clear disregard for image print quality. Publisher should have provided a free online image review option, or better print.

Terrible book!

Steer away. This book is packed with errors. Also a lot of the answers don’t have an explanation, just a reference and the one that have an explanation often is not complete/satisfying. There is way better literature out there for the boards. Last it’s adjourned to birads 4, not 5.

Excellent book for core prep! Only thing that keeps it from a five is the difficult to navigate electronic book format. The questions should be linked to the answers. Instead you must flip

Very Poor Image Quality

I bought this book at the recommendation of a friend in another residency program… Buyer beware: This book is still based on the outdated BI-RADS Version 4 Atlas (the core exam is based on Version 5). The images are crappy low-resolution garbage where the findings are not even visible. Maybe the print version is better in that respect, but the images in the digital version are terrible. Chapter 4 covering procedures/management seems like the most useful part of the book. Overall I am doubtful about relying on this is as a resource for the core exam. Definitely the weakest one of this series thus far (the GU book is outstanding). Final verdict: skip this one.

This book was helpful prior to the Core exam. The image quality is more than satisfactory, and breast imaging artifacts are well-covered. There are several errors in the book, which drops this book to a 4 star rating.

A great adjunct to RadPrimer for the core exam. Hope that they make questions for the other modalities. Very comprehensive for Breast Imaging.
