Features of Best Practices for Medical Educators PDF

Best Practices for Medical Educators PDF was conceived and developed to be a change agent for medical educators. The premise of this book is that combining the science of communication with the communication of science creates an incrementally more valuable exchange for both the instructor and the learner. The principles, concepts, and illustrations included in the book will raise the effectiveness of those who teach.

The contents of Best Practices for Medical Educators might be considered the rest of the story concerning current medical education practices. That is, the contents presented in this book are intended to be the communication complement to the traditional subject matter content of medical education.

Unmet Need: Focus
The current system of medical education is often deficient in that plenty of attention is given to what is said, but often little consideration is given to how it is said. A misplaced focus on content to the exclusion of the learner often lies at the heart of ineffective medical education, so changing that focus to the learner can bring about much needed improvement in medical education from the learner s perspective.

Tools for Better Communication
This book supplies scientific tools and knowledge that can:

– Elevate and differentiate an instructor s skills
– Assist in the effective transfer of knowledge and skills from an instructor to a learner
– Increase the influence and impact of an instructor s presentation
– Create greater demand for an instructor and elevate the direct and perceived value of the education the instructor delivers

This book holds something for every medical educator, from novice instructors to the most experienced mentors.

– Chapter 1 examines how to apply the principles of adult learning to the design of effective educational presentations.
– Chapter 2 focuses on gaining an understanding of the many and various aspects of the different learners represented in any medical audience.
– Chapter 3 contains information on the instructor s performance and the impact it can have on effectiveness.
– Chapter 4 explains how to measure and evaluate educational programs to see if they have reached their desired outcomes. Medical educators are increasingly being made accountable for demonstrating that these new levels of understanding have occurred and that they have been put to work in the learner s medical practice.

Best Practices for Medical Educators will lead the reader to become an increasingly more effective educator, benefitting not only those the reader instructs but ultimately the many patients that audience members will treat.

Let’s face it when you want to spend money on a book, it should be pleasurable. However, in the case of graduate school, this APA bible is not only a necessary evil, it is a must. So glad I’m almost done. Write on my friends.

Nice edition, yet very fragile

I do love the practicality of it being spiral-bound. Yet, as another user mentioned before, the pages are extremely fragile. I’m attaching a picture showing how the very first page was already torn when I got it. I’ll have to take some special measures to protect the book. Other than that, it is a beautiful edition.

This latest version is the best – very user-friendly!

I have used several editions of the APA Manual, but this latest version is very user-friendly and includes examples right inside the front and back covers which is so convenient. I will use this manual not only for myself, but for my students as I teach online research courses.

Great layout
October 26, 2019

I never thought I’d find myself writing a review of the APA manual, but here it is.

My last copy of the APA manual is destroyed, with pages falling out and tabs to easily access the quick things I need while writing nursing school papers.

This edition is put together well with tabs to easily find what you need. The paper quality is very good, so hopefully I won’t end up with pages falling out in 3 years.

Every new provider needs a book that tells them what’s normal and abnormal, and what to disease process to expect during an assessment. This book breaks it down with pictures and sidenotes that I feel will be beneficial to the new provider. Must buy!
