Good For art/writing

I got this for creating more realistic fantasy. Its a lot to study and overkill for traditional art and fantasy writing. However, I find it fascinating. My aim is at creating realistic biology in my characters. The cartoonish look and feel in my creations lacked. This certainly has clear illustrations and the text is reasonably easy. I work with electronics more then biology. So, I am not perfect with skeletal, muscle, or DNA/RNA. This makes a wonderful start in my studies for creating believable characters with in-depth anatomy.

great book for a vet student
April 20, 2013

I am a first year veterinary student, and I bought this book while taking a feline anatomy course in which the instructor had us using his own personal book on anatomy…. trouble was, all he had of it so far was a very rough first draft. I bought this book for more clarification, and ended up loving it so much I never even looked at my instructors notes. One time in lab he saw me with this book and asked to see it. he was equally impressed! he said that there are not a lot of feline anatomy books out there (which is why he had attempted to write his own), but that this one seemed to be a rare good one. For me the more “cartoony” drawings have always been more helpful than pictures of cadavers. I also liked that each body system had a few pages of overview describing function, etc of different things. My only suggestion would be to go for the hardcover version if you can find it….the colors in the pictures are just a tad better.

Rated one of the 50 best veterinary anatomy books ever written.
May 31, 2021

Since I’m a co-author and illustrator of the book I gave it my best rating. Primarily aimed at veterinary students and veterinarians it still reads well enough that lay audiences can enjoy it. The original art plates were selected for inclusion in the Lloyd Library Collection of traditional medical art.
