Attributes of Advanced Surfaces for Stem Cell Research PDF

The book outlines first the importance of Extra Cellular Matrix (ECM), which is a natural surface for most of cells. In the following chapters the influence of biological, chemical, mechanical, and physical properties of surfaces in micro and nano-scale on stem cell behavior are discussed including the mechanotransduction. Biomimetic and bioinspired approaches are highlighted for developing microenvironment of several tissues, and surface engineering applications are discussed in tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and different type of biomaterials in various chapters of the book. Advanced Surfaces for Stem Cell Research PDF

This book brings together innovative methodologies and strategies adopted in the research and development of Advanced Surfaces in Stem Cell Research. Well-known worldwide researchers deliberate subjects including:

  • Extracellular matrix proteins for stem cell fate
  • The superficial mechanical and physical properties of matrix microenvironment as stem cell fate regulator
  • Effects of mechanotransduction on stem cell behavior
  • Modulation of stem cells behavior through bioactive surfaces
  • Influence of controlled micro and nanoengineered surfaces on stem cell fate
  • Nanostructured polymeric surfaces for stem cells
  • Laser surface modification techniques and stem cells applications
  • Plasma polymer deposition: a versatile tool for stem cell research

Fun read but not logical.
September 30, 2020

I really liked the story and so I decided to give it 4 stars. My only qualms is this book doesn’t hold together from a practical stand point. As long as you don’t try to apply logical thinking to the story and just enjoy it, it’s a pretty amazing read. With that said there are a few things that just don’t make sense and/or make the adults seem like idiots. The first issue is why would parents in the conclaves send their kids to the school in the first place? I understand that developing wizards are vulnerable but conclave kids should be completely safe. I can’t imagine you are constantly dealing with monsters in the conclaves or they wouldn’t be considered safe havens. The amount of monsters your child could potentially encounter in a enclave has to be exponentially smaller compared to the school if for no other reason your surrounded by powerful adult wizards. Then their is the general question of why there isn’t any adult wizards In The school or why someone would come up with a school design for such a hostile environment. The biggest flaw is why make the graduating class go through the monster chamber in the first place? They teleport the kids into the school why not teleport them out. Why is there shafts or vents to the chamber that’s specifically meant to hold the monsters that get in, and why would you put the machinery involved with exterminating them in the same chamber. Even if you don’t think about any of those questions there was a power disparity issue. The MC states many times that she has the power to raze cities why not just ask for the the power to raze the monster chamber. They stated the schools mana couldn’t support the kids, then why not have the kids give a ration of mana to the school? There is also the mix up with school vs monster motivations. It is almost presented as if the school wants kids to die and so again I ask why you would design a system like that or send your child into it. All these logical blips made for a good story but this book is definitely not good world building, Magic system is cool though.

Depressing love child of harry potter and the hunger games

Some people will love this book. I personally didn’t enjoy Novik writing urban fantasy as much as her straight fantasies like Spinning Silver. Too much high school bitchyness and too few moments of liking the heroine, who is by turns grouchy, angry, and insanely powerful yet never seems to have to pay for her antisocial actions while hating on her Marty Stu totally-not-a-love-interest.

J.k. Rowling better hold on to her seat, because this is the best magic school series I’ve read!
September 30, 2020

At first I was doubtful, as I couldn’t really identify with the main character; tall and gloomy Galadriel wasn’t the type of heroine I was used to. But my fears were quickly put to rest and I all but inhaled this book in one sitting (I should have paced myself but it’s so hard to do that when you’re enjoying a book!). The world building is top notch, probably my favorite part of the book actually, I loved the monsters -mal’s-, and I think a bestiary would be a fun complement to the series.

The characters are all great, the main cast is quite fleshed out for a first installment, and I’m looking forward to seeing them get their own little arcs in the future. And although most of the book was Galadriel’s inner monologue, it was all very entertaining: I could picture the school so vividly in my mind and the descriptions were very evocative.

I’m am desperately eager for the next book in the series, I don’t know how I’ll survive until then! This book was a bowl of fresh air in the fantasy genre, and I hope it will get as much (if not more) acclaim and success as other books in the genre.

Not an Adult book
October 4, 2020

If you like reading about teenage high school in the magic vein (not in a good way), then this book is for you. However, even if you do, then I must warn you that the way it is written is not exactly reader friendly. Written as if straight from the brain and to the paper, this book alternately irritates and intrigues me. I WANT to know what is happening, yet several long and descriptively, teenager-y written paragraphs later, I find out. I must say I love Naomi Novik’s writing, but had I known this would be written this way, I would have given it a pass. Written for the “Umbrella” readers. it really was a hard thing to read. If you are upwards of 35 years old or so, give it a pass. Otherwise, I would like to know what happens in the neXt book, only because I slogged through this teenage wasteland of a book. Puhleeze, Ms. Novik, write another fantasy novel that I may like SOON.
