The Authors
The news of Dick Robinson’s death came as a great shock to the publishing industry, the thousands of Scholastic employees, as well as to the many authors and illustrators who had been published by his company for years, if not decades. A number of Scholastic’s writers paid tribute to him in statements, lauding his vision, his passion, and his unwavering support for children’s books and authors, including Jim Benton, Ruby Bridges, Suzanne Collins, Alan Gratz, Varian Johnson, Sonia Manzano, Ann M. Martin, Alyssa Milano, Jon J Muth, Jennifer A. Nielsen, Peter Reynolds, J.K. Rowling, David Shannon, Maggie Stiefvater, Francisco X. Stork, and Raina Telgemeier.
“Dick Robinson created a family at Scholastic, and I’m proud to say I’ve been a part of that family for almost 30 years,“ said Brian Selznick. Kazu Kibuishi praised him as “a phenomenal leader; his steadying presence was felt throughout the entire organization.” Tami Charles said, “A legend may have left us, but his legacy is everlasting. I’m so grateful for the impact that Scholastic has had on my life… as a parent, as a teacher, and now, author.” Dav Pilkey said, “Dick Robinson was more than just a visionary and a publisher. He was a brave explorer who didn’t worry about risks. He opened the door for us to dream big.”

Now, we come to this book. Of course, she fought it at first, but when I had her listen to the instructions and she saw that it starts simple with concepts she can easily grasp, she was on board. She doesn’t have to be forced to work through the book. She asks to work through the book. She enjoys it and she completes tasks that have her identify words. It’s very basic, but it’s a beginning and gives her a fantastic sense of accomplishment. She needed encouragement and this book, with some patience on our part, has provided it. I’m so thankful for this book. “Homework” with my daughter hasn’t been a fight. It’s been easy and rewarding with this book as we prepare for First Grade. I trust that this positive reinforcement will help us as we head into the school.
Update: My daughter is now reading and is excited by reading. Of course, a great deal of the thanks goes to her mother and her first grade teacher working with her over the last few months, but it started with this book.”
LadyAmorosaLuckyDulce “Used as a small, but very helpful aide two weeks before Kindergarten started. He ended up at the top of his game, confident and ready to tackle reading in school! We ended up finishing this book by the 2nd month (September of 2016) of the school year. It was tough at a few parts for him, but once he got past those hills, he ended with a great sense of accomplishment and was ready for bigger and more meaningful words. After a lot of hard work (vast majority on his part through independent work and passion for learning) and full two-month at-home summer schooling after Kindergarten, he, now in 1st grade, enjoys reading from his human anatomy coloring book as he colors in the bits and pieces of the human body. He has moved on from sight words entirely, with a quicker grasp of encountering and understanding new words.
What seemed like a small start almost two years ago can end up jump-starting a whole, new world of knowledge. Afterall, we all learn to read so we can read to learn! Easy 5 stars and will recommend to anybody who is interested in getting their child ahead for school.”
I don’t like this product and i wouldn’t recommend it. however, the layouts are appealing and have fun pictures so i’m giving it a star for that.”
